Elijah Espaillat – Community Service, Class of 2021

Elijah Espaillat ’21

Elijah Espaillat describes his experience with community service as rewarding. Since sophomore year, he has participated in various community service programs at MHS and in other communities as part of the MHS domestic service program that provides opportunities for MHS students to assist with programs and projects. Elijah described two projects that stand out to him, one was assisting the elderly in Norristown, Pennsylvania, and the other was packaging food for the homeless. At MHS, he serves the students by participating in SGA, the student government association, where he enjoys collaborating with school administration to create programs that are mutually beneficial to the students and the school.

In addition to his community service, Elijah participated in the MHS Career and Technical Education collaborative program with The Hershey Company, where he and other students learned more about the role of architecture and engineering. He recently was named a Rotary Student of the Month and was inducted junior year into the National Technical Honor Society. Outside the classroom, he participates in cross country.

Elijah enrolled at MHS in ninth grade; he is from New York City. After MHS, he plans to study architecture with a minor in investments. Among his top college choices are Pennsylvania State University and Howard University.
