Joshua Arledge ’15, Career Accomplishment
Joshua is a teacher of the deaf and an American Sign Language instructor who has earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During his undergraduate education at Gallaudet University, the only university in the world for deaf students, Joshua participated in several international exchange programs, including a semester in Buenos Aires, Argentina, an internship at the National Institute for the Deaf in Bogota, Colombia, and a research project in India as a recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State.
In 2019, Joshua earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in deaf education and a minor in Spanish from Gallaudet University. He was also recognized with two awards, including the Most Outstanding Undergraduate award for his dedication to excellence in the field of education and the Delaney Townsley Yeager Award for his dedication to deaf populations in Latin America.
Joshua completed his student teaching requirements in a fourth-grade classroom at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. He then went on to teach fifth grade at Westhill Institute in Mexico City. During the 2020-21 school year, Joshua taught at Texas School for the Deaf. He then spent a year teaching American Sign Language as a second language through Pearson Connection’s Academy. In May 2022, Joshua completed a master’s degree in deaf education, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and obtaining additional certification in English as a Second Language instruction at Texas Woman’s University. He completed this degree through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.
Joshua currently works as a contractor providing virtual services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in underserved communities across the country. In addition, he most recently became an associate faculty member at Cochise College where he teaches American Sign Language 101. As an MHS senior, Joshua was awarded the MHS Alumni Achievement Award for career accomplishment.
