Robert G. Dodson

Robert G. Dodson ’46, 96, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. He was the husband of Pamela Dodson. 

The sun rose for Robert Gordon Dodson on June 7, 1928, in Benton, Pennsylvania born to Gordon and Helen Dodson. Robert was one of four boys born to the couple. At age 5 he moved in with his maternal grandparents Robert and Mary Whitenight. At the age of 12 he was sent to Milton Hershey School for orphans due to the tragic death of his father in a trucking accident. He graduated from Milton Hershey School in 1946 and returned to Benton.

He was drafted in the United States Army serving two years, one in Korea working as both a truck driver and at the post exchange. After his honorable discharge from the Army he began working for Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, beginning his career as a driver, working his way up to a terminal manager, district manager, salesman, and core purchasing agent taking him into retirement after 36 years of service.

Over the next 14 years he dedicated himself to another trucking company as a driver and office manager driving into his late seventies. Life then led him to Dover, Delaware where he drove bus for Modern Maturity Center Social Services Organization and performed a record 5,000 hours of volunteer service at a local hospital.

The sun set on Robert on September 17, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife Pamela Dodson, five children Gordon (Barbara), Ann Dodson, Lisa (Ron) Doddato, Robert (Melissa) and Susan Hummelbaugh; three stepchildren Nichole Hollingsworth-Miller, Tyrone Hollingsworth and Natasha Hollingsworth and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also survived by his three brothers, Charles, Richard and Paul.
