Luke L. Shade

Luke L. Shade ’53, 88, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was the husband of Lilian Shade.

Luke Lamar Shade, 88, of Palmyra, PA, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Born March 4, 1935, he was the only son of the late Henry L. Florence L. (Herb) Shade. He was in the class of 1953 at Milton Hershey School and was part of the last class to see Mr. Hershey. Luke obtained an associate degree in the army where he later ranked up to be a Retired 1 Star General. He then was promoted to Brigadier General of the State of Pennsylvania. From 1982 to 1985 Luke served as a National Guard Advisor to the United States Army Advisor at Fort Rucker, Alabama. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling across the country with his wife, golfing, helicopters, and playing baseball. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lilian Shade, who he met while working for Robert Lowery Engineer Contractor as a draftsman in Jacarta, Indonesia. He is also survived by his cousin Debora Newman (James).

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 12:30 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Luke’s memory to Derry Presbyterian Church to support housing for homeless veterans. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.finkenbinderfamily.com.
