W. Thomas Wolf
W. Thomas Wolf, Jr., 85, died Sunday, October 20, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria W. (Collins) Wolf of York. Mr. and Mrs. Wolf celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on April 22, 2013. Born July 31, 1928, in Stewartstown, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Blanche (Lanius) Wolf. He retired from the York County Gas/Columbia Gas Company after 41 years. At his retirement, he was a Commercial Sales Representative.
Tom was a 1946 graduate of Hershey Industrial School for Boys, now Milton S. Hershey School and was honored to be chosen as a pallbearer for Milton S. Hershey’s funeral. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York.
An avid York County golfer, he was a member of the York County Amateur Golf Association Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000. Tom won many golf tournaments. He won the Grandview Golf Club Championship 5 times, the YCAGA Champion of Champions 2 times, and he and his golf partner, the late Wilson “Sonny” Castle won the Grandview Better Ball Tournament 7 times. Tom also had 7 hole-in-ones. Tom raised many winning Thoroughbred Race Horses. All sports were his passion but his strongest passion was his tremendous love for his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Connie L. and her husband, John Sprenkle of York and Penny L. and her husband, Frank Thomas of Bel Air, Md.; a son, Thomas R. Wolf and his wife, Jacqueline of York; six grandchildren, Abby Clark, Matthew Sprenkle, Heather Arauz, Michael von Lange, Dr. Thomas Wolf, and Jennifer Irish; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Michael K. Fischer, Chaplain of Country Meadows, officiating. Burial will be in Stewartstown Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
