Timothy M. Mitchell
MITCHELL, TIMOTHY MICHAEL 47 – of Ventnor Heights (childhood in Margate), passed from this world in his sleep peacefully (or perhaps with great suprise because he was neither ill or nor unhappy) on the night of July 25th, 2012.
Tim was an extraordinary individual whose easy smile and gentle soul touched all of those he came into contact with. A great father to Brandon and Amanda, a wonderful caring boyfriend to Merryann “Boobala”, a loving brother of Jennifer, a great friend to many, Timmy was and always will be intertwined with the spirit of the sea, mostly in the tidal meanderings of our back bay. Tim was raised by his Grandmother, Jean Stickel, along with his Uncle Herb, after he lost his mother to Leukemia at two years old, and his father to Lightning while out on a fishing trip when he was seven years old. His Grandmother loved him with her providing way, and he went to Hershey boarding school for high school where he made many friends who became like family. Tim was a self-professed and genuine Renaissance Man. He could do anything he undertook. He loved cooking, eating, boating, laughing, but mostly he enjoyed life. He was an expert photographer and loved fishing. He worked in the casinos as dealer, box, floor person, as an electrician both by individual job and for a company for over five years, and as a property manager for the Blumenfeld family (Jack, Jane, Eric and extended family) in Ventnor by whom he was considered part of the family. He had great ideas and was able to put them into action. He had just completed the restoration of an 80 year old Abbotts Milk Wagon for the Blumenfelds, which came with exuberant compliments for Tim’s magnificent work with their carpenter Emilo Deszua, and kind gesture to get corn beef sandwiches for the Mennonite wheel makers, who had never heard of cornbeef, but enjoyed this strange treat none-the-less. All, Tim’s idea. He traveled much with good friend John Couf, who he helped move to California, with the Blumenfelds, and recently with Merryann to enjoy time with his sister in Maine. He was known for his good natured love toward people and his enjoyment of doing something beautiful and sharing it with someone. In May, he proudly received is Masters Captain’s License along with every possible additional certification, such as CPR and tow assistance. He loved golfing with his son Brandon. He loved helping his daughter Amanda, and learning how much alike they were. He recently taught Jesse, the Blumenfeld’s seven year old grandson how to fish. That is just like him. He taught us all. He taught us how to capture the beauty in a sometimes harsh world– how to capture the dragon fly perched on the end of the fishing rod. How to stop and say hello. He will be missed. We are only beginning to understand his impact on this world.
Surviors include his most recent and excellent love Merryann, his daughter Amanda Mitchell, his son Brandon Mitchell; his former wife, Laurie; his sister Jennifer Anne Mitchell Putnam of Main; and his Uncle Herbert Stickel, and distant Aunt Kathleen Stickel; cousin Peggy, and many, many friends. Timothy Michael Mitchell was preceded in worldly death by his Mother, Ann Marie Mitchell, his Father, Joseph Charles Mitchell, his Uncle Peter George Stickel and his grandmother, Jean Kathleen Stickel.
A Memorial Service and Conversation will be held at George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 7300 Ventnor Ave., Ventnor, tonight, Sunday, July 29th 2012 at 7:00pm (6:00 pm for informal visiting and remembering with photos and stories with friends and family).
