Steven G. Cooke
BALLARD, WV – Steve Cooke of Ballard, WV (affectionately called Cooke) passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at home, holding the hand of his loving wife, Debra Schmeling.
Cooke was born in Winchester, VA March 10, 1958 to Janet and Winfred Austin Cooke and grew up in the Front Royal and Rockland, VA area and at Hershey, PA.
He lived and worked and was much loved for many years in the Fauquier area of Virginia before moving to Ballard, WV in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Ricky. He is survived and will be fondly remembered by his wife, Debra; sister, Diana Cooke- Hyre, brother, Charles A. Cooke; daughters, A.J. and Tyler Miller; family Paul, Matt and Katie Schmeling; and many, many friends.
An avid hunter, Cooke had a tattoo of a wild turkey on his left arm and one of a catfish on his right. He cooked excellent bear chili, and turtle soup; hunted frogs with a jig, scooped barn swallows out of the air with his ball cap and once killed a groundhog from ten yards with an Estwing.
Cooke’s life will be celebrated and remembered Saturday, September 26, from 2 pm to 4pm, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV.
