Ronald Glenn Parks, 71, of Etowah died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Carolinas Specialty Hospital in Charlotte.

A native of Clearfield, Pa., he was born on July 17, 1939, to the late Glenn Clair Parks and Helen Rebecca Rarick Parks.

He graduated from Milton Hershey School for Boys in Hershey, Pa., and continued his education at Penn State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree.

In 1971, he obtained a master’s degree in education from Trenton State College in Trenton, N.J.

In 1994, he retired from Madison Central High School in Old Bridge, N.J., after 32 years of teaching. He was the supervisor of the Industrial Technologies and Business Department and served as the assistant coach of the wrestling team for several years. He moved to Etowah in 1997.

He was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church and enjoyed trout fishing, golfing and woodworking.

He was one of the original four “Famous Woodworkers,” a group formed by church members.

He was a gifted woodworker who helped make several pieces of furniture for the church library. He also made numerous items for the church’s annual holiday bazaar, and many beautiful gifts for family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen A. Parks; a brother, William E. Parks and wife, Bonnie, of Lawn, Pa.; a niece, Stephanie J. Lupacchini, of Harrisburg, Pa.; a nephew, Richard G. Parks and wife, Mary, and their children, Jason, Rebecca, Ryan, of North Irwin, Pa., and his beloved cats, Fluffy and Holly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert A. Parks.
