Robert Perry
Robert Perry, 89, of Pomeroy, passed away at the Neighborhood Hospice Center of West Chester on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Nancy R. Ellis Perry, with whom he had shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Elk Grove, Pa., he was the son of the late Anthony H. and Roxanna Harvey Perry.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 28th Infantry Division and was a veteran of the battle of Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. Bob was awarded five battle stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was employed as a foreman in the gas division of Philadelphia Electric, retiring in 1981.
He was a life member of the Pomeroy Fire Company, a member of the V.F.W. Post 8317 in Benton and the American Legion 422 of Honey Brook. Robert was a member of the Hephzibah Baptist Church of East Fallowfield.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by three children, Pamela P. Stevens, wife of John, of Winchester, Robert E. Perry, husband of Donna, of Wagontown and Maryann B. Perry of Pomeroy; five grandchildren; and five siblings, Anthony Perry of Parkesburg, Benjamin Perry of Manheim, Elizabeth Lewis of Benton, Lola Jordan of Wagontown, and Jean Waters of Elk Grove. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Hephzibah Baptist Church, 2237 Strasburg Road, East Fallowfield, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, from 10 to 11 a.m., which will take place at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.
