Richard A. Kershner Sr., 73, of West Market Street, Middleburg, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 15, 1943, in Williamsport, a son of the late Marjorie (Dunlap) Kershner. On May 11, 1962, he married Eleanor I. (Beamer) Kershner, who survives. Richard was a 1961 graduate of Milton Hershey High school. He worked for many years as a loom mechanic for Beavertown Weaving Mills. Mr. Kershner was a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 145 in Williamsport.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, was an avid Penn State football fan and especially loved spending time with family and friends. Richard was a kind, generous and hard working man. He was tough as nails on the outside and as soft as a pillow on the inside. He was the family rock and enjoyed that title. His greatest joys were being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family and their friends alike. Everyone knew him as “Pap” or “Dad.” His heart was as big as the sky and soul as deep as the ocean. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Richard will forever be remembered by the love and joy he gave to those around him and by his happiness and humor that he spread like wild fire. He was nothing short of extraordinary, and his legacy will live on forever.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. Jr. and Maurene Kershner; three daughters, Ruth Ann Uskurait and companion Christopher Schwartz, Marjorie Elizabeth Kershner and Courtney Marks and companion Jacob Bergeron; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Harrington “Duke,” Phillip, Frank and Edward Kershner. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Marie Kershner; one great-granddaughter, Karma Uskurait; two brothers, Robert and Fred Kershner; and one sister, Anna Sherman.

Friends and family will be received from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Plank officiating.
