Raymond C. DeWald, 86, widower of Doris C. (Rapposelli) DeWald who died July 25, 2003. of Douglassville, PA, died Dec. 3, 2010 in his residence.

Raymond was born in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Ardelle J. (Kissinger) DeWald and the late William J. DeWald. He was a research chemist for many years with Firestone, Hooker & Occidental chemical. He was a member of Immaculate Conception RCC-Douglassville, PA. He was a WW II veteran of the Navy Seabees. He was a PIAA swimming official for many years in Berks Co., and was a member of the Amity Twp. Sewer Authority, the Amity Athletic Club, he was the Treasurer of Firestone Retirees, and an Active member of Immaculate RCC.

Surviving are: 5 Daughters-Roseann M. Smoyer-Weavertown, PA, Eileen T. DeWald-West Lawn, PA, Sylvia J. Leech-Douglassville, PA, Patricia M. DeWald-at home, and Christine E., wife of August Spanier-Blandon, PA; 2 Brothers-David & Paul DeWald-both of Lititz, PA; 1 Sister-Ruth DeWald-Lititz, PA; 6 Grandchildren-Rebecca, Andrew, Jonathan, Nicole, Amelia & Julia.

Raymond was valedictorian of his graduating class from Milton Hershey School for Boys where he was voted “Most Likely to Blow Things Up”. He was also a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College. He received the 1988 Inventor of the Year Award from Occidental Chemical and held 7 patents in PVC processing.

An avid gardener, he raised prize winning pumpkins for the Oley Fair. Raymond had a good sense of humor, liked the beach, and enjoyed hiking, bird watching, concerts and big band music. He was also an avid Pitt & Villanova sports fan. Raymond died peacefully at home Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception RCC, 905 Chestnut St. Douglassville, PA 19518 A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. 144 N. Spruce St. Birdsboro, PA Interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Birdsboro, PA Memorial Contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception RCC at the above address, or the American Heart Association 25 Stevens Ave. West Lawn, PA 19609.
