Philip P. Packer, 81, of Salladasburg, formerly of Bellefonte, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at Williamsport Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 25, 1928 in Beech Creek to the late Marlin S. and Lorna Johnstonbaugh Packer. He married Nanette Wait, on July 15, 1950 in Hershey, she preceded in him death on Aug. 25, 2006. Philip was a 1945 graduate of the Milton Hershey Industrial School for Boys. He was a plumber and pipe fitter with Local 520 of Harrisburg, Pa. He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Army serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Bellefonte Elks, V.F.W. and the Pleasant Gap American Legion. He was an avid Penn State Football fan and was a season ticket holder for the past 37 years. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Garman (Warren), of Atlanta, Ga., and Jacqueline Gundlach (Bruce), of Salladasburg; one son, Frank Halderman (Rosalie), of Bellefonte; one brother, Joseph R. Packer, of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
There will be no public visitation. Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009, Christian Cemetery, Blanchard, with the Rev. Alan S. Eckenroad, officiating.
