December 19, 2009 Otto R. Weber, M.D., 86, died Thursday evening, Dec. 17, at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg.

Born on Jan. 16, 1923, in Camden, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Schmidt) Weber. He was raised at The Milton Hershey School for orphan and semi orphan boys. Marvin and Elva Boyer were his house parents and became lifelong friends. Dr. Weber attended Temple University and graduated from Hahnemann Medical School with an M.D. degree. He practiced general medicine in Linglestown for 10 years. After completing a residency in OB-GYN he moved to Stroudsburg in 1962. There he practiced OB-GYN for 34 years, delivering over 5,000 babies.

In 1985 he volunteered as a medical missionary in Zaire (Congo) Africa, spending six to nine months of each year for five years in Africa. After retirement he attended East Stroudsburg University, finally receiving a bachelor of arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, and continued to pursue and achieve a master’s degree in history. He loved golf and was proud of being able to walk nine holes every day. He served on a number of boards and received several honors over his lifetime. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Alberta (Finch) Weber; five children, Lawrence P. Weber and his wife, Ruth, of Stroudsburg, Dr. Charles A. Weber and his wife, Kathy, of Colt’s Neck, N.J., Kathy Godshalk and her husband, James, of Bangor, Phillip Weber and his fiancee, Irene, of Stroudsburg, and Dr. Jeffrey Weber and his wife, Audrey, of Stroudsburg; 10 grandchildren, Margaret Martin and her husband, Jeremy, Robert Rasely and his wife, Jordyn, Arline Rasely, Charles Weber III and his fiancee, Jamie, Drew Weber and his fiancee, Diana, Alexia Weber and her fiance, Kyle, Chad Weber, Christopher Weber and his wife, Cassandra, Amber Weber and Benjamin Weber; and a great-grandchild, Brody Martin.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Keith.

There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, at the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 547 Main St., Stroudsburg. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Private burial will be in Hershey Trust Co. Cemetery, Hershey.
