Joseph A. Verdone
Verdone, Joseph A. Ph.D., North Greece: Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at age 76. Joe left his beloved wife, Barbara, and daughters, Angela, of Durham, NC, and Jules, of Rockaway Beach, NY, and many cherished friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Anthony J. Verdone, his mother, Violet (Miles) Verdone Pantaleo, his stepfather, Albert S. Pantaleo, and his brother, Jere L. Verdone, all of Reading, PA.
Joe grew up in Reading and Hershey, PA, and earned a doctorate in chemistry from the University of New Hampshire.
He loved music, especially Bill Evans, Puccini, Renee Fleming, and The Dady Brothers; fly fishing and ice fishing; growing his beautiful roses and gardening; sailing out of GYC with Barbara on their boat, Bellavia; umpiring his girls’ softball games (fairly!); his adored dogs; bowling; the Steelers and the Clemente-era Pirates; and going to museums.
He had many friends who shared his passions, which included his work at Eastman Kodak, where he spent 31 years as a research chemist.
He had a singular sense of humor and was fond of puns, Monty Python, Jean Shepherd, and Xena, Warrior Princess. He is deeply missed.
Friends may visit the family Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Ave., Hilton. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe’s memory to the Braddock Bay Bird Observatory () or to Foodlink ().
