John W. Shanabrook
John William (Doc) Shanabrook, 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Saturday, May 17th, 2008 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Shanabrook was born in Mechanicsburg, on August 10, 1925, the son of the late Victor and Ruth (Wierman) Shanabrook.
He was a member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church Mechanicsburg, the American Legion post 109 Mechanicsburg for 63 years, and a lifetime member VFW post 6704 Mechanicsburg.
John was very active in Mechanicsburg Little League, and Teenier Baseball Playing, Coaching, and Umpiring. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He retired from McFarlands Printing Company, and was employed partime for keefers IGA. He was the widower of Mildred (Coover) Shanabrook.
John is survived by 3 daughters: Donna J. McCreary of Harrisburg, Sandra K. Negley of Carlisle, and Susan J. Beers of Mechanicsburg, 2 sons: Alan V. Shanabrook of Mechanicsburg, and Dennis R. Shanabrook, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. John was Preceded in death by a son Ronald D. Shanabrook.
Funeral Services will be held in the Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21st, with The Reverend Richard G. Lorenz officiating. There will be a viewing Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Myers Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 to 11 am in Trindle Spring Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery Mechanicsburg.
