John H. Benson
BENSON John H. Benson, retired U.S. Army Colonel, age 91, of Frankfort, passed away Sunday, June 27th, 2010 at Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights.
Born in Baltimore Maryland, June 16, 1919. Graduated Hershey School for Boys. Worked his way through University of Georgia (BA Ag) and University of PA Veterinary School. Joined the army serving in Korea, Germany, Vietnam. Lead the Veterinary Corp for Southeast Asia toward the end of the Vietnam Conflict.
John was an active member of the Lion’s Club and AVMA.
Survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Wolf, Slack), stepsons, Charles Slack, John Slack, Joseph Slack, grandchildren, Jamie Vieback, Joseph Slack, Erica Slack, Lauren Slack, great grandchildren, Dakota Slack, Liam Vieback and niece Francis Benson Wolley.
Preceded in death by his father, Clarence, mother, Grace Agnes (Gosnell), brothers, Howard, Harry (killed in WWII) and Joseph.
Funeral service, Friday, July 2nd, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. PLEASE ARRIVE AT THE CEMETERY BY 9:45 AM.
