James “Jim” Cooper Halbleib of San Mateo, CA, died on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at home. He was 58 years old.

Born September 27, 1951, he was the son of the late James and Veronica (Bennett) Halbleib. Jim was born and raised in Harrisburg, PA, and a 1969 graduate of Milton Hershey School, Hershey, PA. In 1973 he graduated with a BA degree in mathematics from what was then Millersville State College, Millersville, PA.

With over 35 years of experience, Jim was a recognized leader in the insurance industry. He began his career with Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, CT, eventually moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he worked for several national insurance brokers. In November of 2007 he joined San Mateo-based Edgewood Partners Insurance Center as Principal and Executive Vice President, Global Risk Management. In February, Jim was named a 2010 Power Broker by Risk & Insurance Magazine.

Jim was an avid golfer, a passionate fan of The Beatles, and a self-taught musician and song writer. In 1990 he formed with his colleagues a band called the Blues Brokers, when for nearly a decade he performed as guitarist and lead singer. Spending time with his family was what Jim enjoyed most. He was a devoted father to Aaron James, a college student, and Nicolas Donald, a seventh grader.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Bernard; eight siblings, John Halbleib, Lemont, IL, Joan Waite, Colorado Springs, CO, Jerome Michael Halbleib, Birmingham, AL, Eleanor Halbleib, Wilmington, NC, Jean Halbleib, Harrisburg, PA, Mary Magaro, Hummelstown, PA, Dorothy Rosenberry, Fulton, MD, Robert Halbleib, Hughesville, MD; and 22 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Veronica Matio of Harrisburg, PA, and two infant brothers.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 31, 2010, St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 600 Columbia Dr., San Mateo, CA, 94402.
