George L. Forry
George L. Forry, 89, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2015 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Myerstown, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Markey Forry. He is reunited with his beloved wife of 42 years, the late Mildred Dubble Forry, who passed away in 1992.
A student at the Milton S. Hershey Industrial School, George left school his senior year to join the U.S. Marine Corps and fight in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Known for his witty sense of humor, he often referred to himself as one of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children.
Struck with Polio in 1952, George defied the odds, left the hospital walking on his own two legs and worked for over 50 years as the parts manager at Keller Bros. Ford in Lititz alongside his three brothers. A member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren and Rose of Sharon Sunday school class, George served as the head usher for most of his adult life. Always jovial, “YoYo”, enjoyed throwing frisbees with anyone walking by his house, cheering loudly for his grandchildren at sporting events and riding his moped all over Lancaster County.
He will be lovingly missed by his daughters, Dawn Wheeler, wife of Jim, Wichita, KS; Ann Oswald, wife of Kenneth Jr., Lititz; granddaughters , Keanna, wife of Bryan Walters, Palmyra; Robyn, wife of Kevin Pracht, Garden Plain, KS; grandsons, Kevin Oswald, Lancaster; Troy Gerlach, husband of Terra, Phoenix, AZ; Travis Gerlach, husband of Missy, Wichita, KS; one step grandson; 8 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and a brother, Jonathan Forry, Lancaster. In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by his twin sister, Kathryn Kreider and his brothers, Sam, Henry, David, Harry (killed in World War II), Charlie and Harvey.
Family and Friends are invited for a viewing on Thursday, May 7th from 6 to 8 pm at the Richard H. Heisey Funeral Home, 216 S. Broad St., Lititz and on Friday, May 8th from 9 to 10 am at the Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W. Orange St., Lititz, followed by the Funeral Service at 10 am. Interment with Military Honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
