Gaylord N. Arnst, 71, of Willow Street, entered into rest November 15, 2010 after a two year courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Marlene T. Arnst with whom he celebrated 47 years of marriage last May. He taught Industrial Arts for 30 years at Solanco High School until his retirement in 1993. Gaylord was a graduate of Milton Hershey School and Millersville University.

Born in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Wade R. and Elizabeth W. (Smith) Arnst.

Gaylord was an active member of Willow Street United Church of Christ. Gaylord was a Life Member of the Willow Street Fire Company where he served two terms as President. He had served as Operations Chief of the Willow Street Ambulance for 15 years. Gaylord was a charter member and past President of the Strasburg-Willow Street Baseball-Softball Association.

Active in Masonic Fraternities, Gaylord was a member of Charles M. Howell #496, F.! & A. M., Millersville, where he served three terms as Worshipful Master. Earlier in his life, he was active with Pennsylvania Order of DeMolay. He was also a member of the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon-Forest #27. In 2008, Gaylord was honored with the Masonic Meritorious Service Award.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Susan wife of Paul Allen of Willow Street, Scott husband of Tammy Arnst of Strasburg, Donna wife of George Williams of Mount Joy; six grandchildren Kim & Kristin Allen, Taylor & Benjamin Arnst and MariBeth & Allison Williams. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Arnst Gray.

Gaylord’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at the Willow Street United Church of Christ, 2723 Willow Street Pike North, Willow Street, PA 17584 on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 10 AM with Pastor Ron Bohannon officiating. Relatives and friends may view at the church on! Friday evening between 6 and 8 PM. Masonic Services accorded ! by the C harles M. Howell Lodge #496, F. & A. M. at 8 PM Friday at the church. There will also be a viewing on Saturday between 9 and 10 AM at the church.
