Frederick K. Broyan, 67, of Berwick was stricken at his home and died Friday at Geisinger Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Dec. 18. He had been in failing health for the past several years. He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Hazleton, and was a son of the late Joseph and Lillian Brojan Broyan. Frederick graduated from Milton Hershey School in the Class of 1964. He then attended Wyoming Valley Technical Institute, Kingston, for engineering.

Out of college, he worked for General Electric Corp. in King of Prussia, Davro Instruments from 1976 to 1978 in Landsdale, Poloron, and U.S. Radium in Bloomsburg, Richter Precision in Lancaster, owned his own business from 1984 until 1999: Northeast Design and Systems Co. in Berwick, and most recently opened his own business as Butler’s Buddy Inc. in Berwick. He invented a gas compressor for Broyan Valve Co. Inc. and had several other patents. He was a member of Bloomsburg Baptist Church, North Berwick Hunting and Fishing Club, Nescopeck Hunting and Rifle Club and was also a blood donor.

Frederick enjoyed fishing, liked to go shooting, and was very handy. In his genius he was always looking for better ways to do things and was extremely generous.

He is survived by a son Timothy J. Broyan, Berwick; two daughters, Christine M. Broyan, Berwick; and Joanna R. Broyan, Bloomsburg; a brother, Joseph Broyan and his wife, Anne, County Fermanagh, Ireland; a sister, Lillian Ureovich, Freeland; half-sisters, Betty Betterly, and Pearl Sipple, Drums; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick. Visitation for friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
