From: Charlie Dodson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2010 9:10 AM Subject: SPAM-LOW: The passing of Frank Utzman, our Father.
This email was sent to me by Cody Utzman, son of Frank Utzman, class of 1950 — Charlie
To all that loved Him, To all the knew Him, He was our Father, On Monday morning, our Father woke as he has for the last 78 years and started his day. As he watched his morning news, I’m sure it was the Today show, volume up so loud the neighbors could hear it.
On the previous Saturday he had all four of his grandchildren with him, his daughters and is very dear friend, our mother. It was Lukey’s birthday and this would be Dad’s last family meal. Fitting for the the man he was in recent years, he enjoyed pizza and beer followed by a scoop of ice cream. You just couldn’t tell Dad what to do. I’m sure his doctor would disagree but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. As Dad sat there in his chair Monday morning October 25th, he peacefully and without pain nor suffering passed on. Though sudden and unexpected, we all know that his wishes will be honored and his life remembered forever. Although our Father never wanted a hole in the ground nor a black and sorrowful mourning, our grief is without measure. As his son and speaking on behalf of his children, Steve Utzman, Kila (Utzman) Swearinger, and Kacey Utzman we invite you to come and share in the joy that was our father, to celebrate his life and remember that he was your greatest friend and our dear and beloved father, and grandfather.

To all that will be in attendance, I would like to let everybody know a few more details about the service on Monday. Pastor Dale Donovan will be leading a service for us starting at 2pm. This is a time to celebrate my fathers life. Last year on November 1st 2009 I was in Mexico City on one of my many adventures. I held memorial services with many Mexican elders as this is The Day of The Dead, Día de los Muertos. Tradition for 3000 plus years has been to bring food and beverages to the grave site of those that have passed, to honor and celebrate their lives.. Today we will do just that… Unlike the Spaniards, who viewed death as the end of life, the natives viewed it as the continuation of life. Instead of fearing death, they embraced it. To them, life was a dream and only in death did they become truly awake.
