Douglas W. Lewis
Douglas W. Lewis departed this life April 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Pennsgrove, NJ to the late William and Reba Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Betty Lewis and several brothers and sisters including his twin brother, Billy.
Doug graduated from Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation after 38 years. After his retirement, he found his dream job at School Bell Apartments. He was part of a truly caring work team who became part of his extended family.
He was an avid Beatles fan, loved working outdoors, building birdhouses and helping others. More than any of these things he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Kaitlyn, who was the sunshine in his life. Doug’s uniqueness and creativity will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nona Lewis, his daughters, Deborah Ann Lewis, Christine Gaskill (Cameron), Charise Lewis (David Norbut) and Staci Lewis (Kevin Ryan), his beautiful granddaughters, Kaitlyn Lewis and Ava Gaskill. He is also survived by his and his wife’s brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, countless friends and extended family.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19803 where a memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to African Wildlife Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
