OBITUARY of BOFINGER, CHARLES F. Charles F. Bofinger, noted Bucks County artist, died on Monday, May 27, 2013. He was 88. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles and Carrie Bofinger. In 1936 he entered the Hershey Industrial School, now the Milton Hershey School, in Hershey, PA where he graduated in 1943.

Mr. Bofinger was a US Navy veteran, serving three years in the South Pacific. Upon return to Philadelphia, his artistic talent brought him first to Lit Brothers, then Strawbridge & Clothier and finally to John Wanamaker where he served as the Advertising Manager of the Downstairs Store. While working during the day, he studied for three years with Nina Scull, world-renowned portrait artist. In 1950, he was employed by MAB paints as Advertising and Marketing director. In 1954, he moved to Bucks County and a short time later opened his own advertising and marketing agency in Glenside, PA. Some of his many clients over the next thirty years of business included the New Jersey State Lottery, Industrial Valley Bank, HersheyPark, Hotel Hershey, Hershey Motor Lodge, Finneran & Haley paints, Cherry Hill Inn, Garden State Park, Boyers Candy, J. B. Van Sciver, SEPTA Systems, CRC Chemicals, Giles & Ransome, San Giorgio, and WIP Radio.

Two of his most recognized achievements beyond his artwork included the design of the Hershey Street Lights in Hershey, PA and, that his agency was the very first to handle marketing and advertising for the newly inaugurated New Jersey Lottery in 1971. The Milton Hershey School honored him because of his work in advertising and marketing with the 1966 Alumnus of the Year Award. In 1980, Mr. Bofinger made the decision to merge his agency with Spiro & Associates, the largest advertising agency in Philadelphia. After two years as Vice-President with the Spiro Agency, he determined to devote his time to doing what he was originally trained to do many years earlier, fine art. His renderings of well-known Philadelphia scenes hang in many public and private collections and include, Logan Circle, View of the Ben Franklin Bridge, and City Hall Tower. His great love for Bucks County and Stone Harbor, NJ caused him to maintain studios in both locations. Subsequently, his paintings of various scenes of the South Jersey coast and environs were in demand. Some of the original canvases were copied as prints, lithographs and giclée prints. His work is found in private collections nationally and internationally and in many galleries. Three paintings hang at the Milton Hershey School.

Mr. Bofinger is survived by his dear wife, Marie E. Bofinger of 68 years. He was also the loving father of Karen Wilson and her husband Bob of Newtown, PA and Charlene Bofinger and her husband, Don, of Oakton, VA. He is the brother of Kenneth Bofinger and his wife, Sue. He was predeceased by his brother William and his wife, the late Elsie Bofinger. He is the beloved Uncle of Darlene Dunfee, Janise Pugliese, Mark Bofinger, Christopher Bofinger and Jennifer Tucker as well as “grandchildren” Bill, Brenda, Brian, Phillip and Matthew.
