Charles C. Madeira
Charles Calvin Madeira III, 80, of 301 Pine Lake Drive, Elizabeth City, N.C., died on Nov. 6, 2008. He was born in Schuylkill Haven, Pa., the son of the late Charles Calvin Jr., and Norman B. Shomper Madeira. He was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Madeira, and a young sister, Laura Madeira.
Charles was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He served as commander in chief of the Great Lakes Naval Base in Great Lakes, Ill. His family is very proud of his service to his country, the United States of America. After serving his country and retiring as a commander from the United States Navy, Charles enjoyed being active in his local VFW, the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060.
Charles is survived by four daughters, Karen Wilcox of Charlottesville, Va., Joyce Madeira Stidham of Ahoskie, N.C., Cindy Terese of Edmond, Okla., and Debbie Armstrong of Edmond, Okla.; four sons, Charles Calvin Madeira IV of Chicago, Ill., Fredric Madeira of Elizabeth City, N.C., Brian Madeira of Topeka, Kan., and Douglas Madeira of Ozawkie, Kan.; a sister, Audrey Marschka of Lancaster, Pa.; 25 grandchildren, and 10ten great-grandchildren; first wife Betty Marie Madeira of Portsmouth, Va.; and a loving companion, Ms. Francis Seymour of Elizabeth City, N.C.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
