Bertram E. Moore

Passed: November 4, 2018

Pastor Bertram “Bert” E. Moore, passed from this world into the presence of his Lord and his wife, Lorraine, on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Calvary Homes in Lancaster, PA.

Bert was born in Philadelphia on November 8, 1927. He lost his dad when he was 8 years old and was raised at Hershey’s Boys’ School. He learned to be an electrician, but also knew farming, plumbing, carpentry and how to work hard. He told his family that his graduating class was the last in which Mr. Hershey stood on the stage and shook every boy’s hand as they received their diploma.

From school he joined the Navy and served at the end of WWII. After the Navy he met Lorraine Lex in Philadelphia, and they married in 1949. They had two boys, Bert Jr. and Ken.

While attending a church Sunday School class, they heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and committed themselves to Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Bert worked a second shift so he could attend Philadelphia Bible Institute. In 1955 he was ordained and in 1956 went into full-time ministry with Village Missions. Bert also earned a BA in English and an MA in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Bert never thought he was entitled to be called Reverend, but he loved being Pastor Moore and loved to preach. He served churches in Wetmore, CO; Pence and Modoc, KS; Kersey, CO; and Pendleton, NY.

Then he became East Coast District Representative of Village Missions. Following that assignment, he pastored at a church in Sedalia, MO, took a year’s sabbatical attending classes at Dallas Theological Seminary and returned to pastor in Sabetha, KS, until retiring in Virginia Beach, VA. Eventually Bert and Lorraine moved to Calvary Homes, in Lancaster, PA, where they enjoyed their new friends and retirement for more than 10 years.

Bert is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine, his brother, Stu; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Verratti. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Bert, Jr. and Mary Ann, and Ken and Sally. He had 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at Fellowship Hall in Calvary Homes on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Benevolent Care Fund at Calvary Homes, 502 Elizabeth Dr., Lancaster, PA 17601 or to the Stephanie Moore Verratti Memorial Fund, P. O.
