William P. Schwanger

William P. Schwanger ’64, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away on March 30, 2025.


William Patrick Schwanger, 79, of Sun City Center, Florida, and formerly of Etters, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 30, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.

Born on March 17, 1946, in Highspire, PA, Bill was the son of Jacob M. and Elsie B. Schwanger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Mark, George, Gerald, Karl, and Jay, as well as his sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Patti Ann Schwanger.

A proud graduate of the Milton Hershey School, Class of 1964, Bill was a dedicated “Lifer” who remained actively engaged in the school community throughout his life. He served two terms as President of the Alumni Association, leading with steadfast commitment and deep devotion to his alma mater.

After graduating from Penn State University, Bill pursued a distinguished career at AMP Inc., in Sales and Marketing. His work took him around the world, and he was known for his leadership and dedication to his customers.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joan DeHart Schwanger of Sun City Center, FL; his son, Nathan; daughter-in-law, Quynh Duong; and cherished grandson, Thorley of St. Petersburg, FL. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Bill was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Throughout his journey with Alzheimer’s, Bill was surrounded with the unwavering support of family, friends, and dedicated caregivers. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to ACL Senior Advocates and Lifepath Hospice of Sun City Center, FL for their compassionate care.

Arrangements are being handled by Zipperer’s Funeral Home in Ruskin, FL. Details regarding a memorial service at the Purcell Friendship Hall in Hershey, Pennsylvania will be announced at a later date.
