Thomas Moyer

Thomas L. Moyer, 77, of Shavertown, passed away peacefully Friday, June 3, 2022, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp. He was surrounded by his family. Born in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Mary Haulman Moyer.

Thomas graduated from Milton Hershey High School in 1962. He went on to study at Albright University, Reading, on a wrestling scholarship. He then enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country from 1964-1967. Following his service, he was employed by IBM as a customer service engineer and retired after 35 years.

Thomas was an active member of the Kingston Twp. community for over 50 years. He loved this community. He served on the Kingston Twp. Civil Service Commission for 30 years, assisting in the selection of many fine officers for the police force, and was a founding member and former president of the Kingston Twp. Lions Club. He coached for Back Mountain Little League baseball and later teener league. He was a referee for high school wrestling and football. Additionally, he was instrumental in starting the Back Mountain Youth Basketball Organization.

Thomas loved spending time with his friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and quick wit, adding his own flare to every event. He enjoyed playing cards and watching football, especially the Packers and Penn State.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Daley, Samantha Sholley and Francis Speck.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Shirley Shumock; children, Timothy Moyer and Krystyn Moyer, both residing in Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Judy Prechart, Dillsburg; sister-in-law, Theresa Koslowski Young, Middletown; and nieces and nephews.
