Stoddard S. Burg

Stoddard S. Burg ’43, 90, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016. He was the husband of the late Gloria Burg. 

Stoddard S. Burg, 90, of Naples, Florida, formally of Upper St. Clair, PA, passed away on July 25, 2016.

Stod was born in Lykens, PA and was the son of Edwin Burg and Ethel John Burg. He was the loving husband for 65 years of the late Gloria H. Burg and father to Michael S. Burg (Linda), Terry B. Onstot (the late Dan Onstot) and Sandy B. McKnight (Gary). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Upon Edwin Burg’s death, Stod, at age 10, was sent to The Milton Hershey School.

Shortly after graduating from the school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and trained as a pilot during the final years of WWII.

He was a graduate of Penn State University, where he was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. He was proud to have been awarded a Sloan Fellowship through US Steel Corporation to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a Masters in Industrial Management with emphasis on economics and finance.

Stod started his career with US Steel as a mining engineer in their Kentucky and West Virginia coal mines. Later, at US Steel’s headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, he enjoyed a challenging and rewarding career in various areas of finance, litigation and insurance.

Upon his retirement, he and Gloria spent many happy years in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed time with good friends, deep sea fishing and boating, golf and other activities.
