Robert S. Smith
Robert S. Smith MHS Class of 1945, was born on June 10, 1927 in Curwensville, Pennsylvania. He attended schools in Curwensville and Hershey, Pennsylvania. Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theatre Occupational Forces. He was employed by IBM in Schenectady, New York and transferred to Rochester in 1957. He retired in 1987 after 31 years at IBM where he was a Department Manager in Manufacturing. He married Beverly J. Claude of Rochester on June 22, 1968. She preceded him in death in 1993. Mr. Smith was married in 2002 to Jean Heinl. They were later divorced. Mr. Smith was a Master Gardner and enjoyed golf, as well his volunteer work at the United Methodist Church Noon Meal Program.
Preceding him in death are his parents Ferman A. and Ruth E. (Addelman) Smith, four brothers, and two sisters. Mr. Smith is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Barbara Smith of Byron. He is survived by two stepsons John Kingrey (Karen) and Tom Kingrey (Shelley) and three grandchildren Michael, Sara, and Wilson, all from St. Paul.
Mr. Smith was a 50-year member in Rochester Masonic Lodge, the Osman Temple Shrine, Scottish Rites bodies, and Elks. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Ranfranz Funeral Home. Memorials preferred to a charity of donor’s choice.
