Robert Dingeldein

Robert Alton Dingeldein, 93, Altoona, formerly of Bellwood, passed into the arms of his Savior Friday evening July 31, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 5, 1927 in Altoona, son of the late Alfred E. and Emma I. (Sanderson) Dingeldein. On Aug. 14, 1948, he married Elsie Jane Kurtz at Olivet Baptist Church, Bellwood.

Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Carolyn (Carl) Batzel of Blue Ridge Summit, Barbara (Irvin “Pink”) Parks of Alexandria, Kathryn (Tom) Furlong of Alum Bank, Marcia (Chuck) Diehl of Muncy, and Nancy (Rick) Beatty of Bellwood; a son, William (Cindy), of Fayetteville; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George (Evelyn) of Meadville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilynn Dingeldein Croyle.

Robert was raised at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, where he graduated in 1945, and later continued his education, graduating from Hershey Junior College and Juniata College in 1950.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a navigator on the USS Taconic during World War II.

In 1985, Robert retired as a manager at the Department of Public Welfare, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He also taught at Central High School and Calvary Christian Academy.

He was a member of Grace Bible Church, Hollildaysburg and a founding member of the Altoona Farmers Market. Robert loved to travel to Cape Cod and spend time with his family.
