Richard R. Reed ’54, of Somerset, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 11, 2025.

Richard Rex Reed Sr, 88, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. He was born in Chester, PA, son of the late William Norris Sr and Regina Ethel (Rex) Reed. He is preceded in death by wife, Virginia Reed; and brothers, William Jr, Wilbur and Daniel Reed. He is survived by children, Lori (Mark) Hogan, Richard Jr (Karyn Posella) Reed and Vicki Reed; grandchildren, Bridget, Jonathan, Stephanie, Andrew, Gina and Derek; 8 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Richard attended Milton Hershey School from grades 7 through 12. Upon graduation he attended IUP to receive his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Music Education. Richard led a community wide initiative to start the Reynoldsville Community Pool and was named “Man of the Year” because of his achievement. He retired from Brookville Area Schools, where he was the chairman of the music department. After retiring, he traveled with his wife Virginia throughout the United States, Europe and Caribbean. Richard and his wife spent many winters in Bonita Springs, FL, and had lived in Somerset for the last 10 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 23, 2025 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, 607 E. Main St, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Reynoldsville, PA. On April 24, 2025 at 11 am a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 433 W. Church St, Somerset, PA 15501.
