Paul C. Azarian, Sr. ’55, of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, passed away on Jan. 19, 2025.
Today we share the heartfelt news of the passing of a remarkable man, Paul C. Azarian, Sr. Born on May 24th, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Paul’s journey through life came to a peaceful end on January 19th, 2025, in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. He courageously battled advanced Parkinson’s Disease before his departure at the age of 87.
The son of immigrants, Paul’s early life was marked by his education at the Milton Hershey School after his father’s death, where he earned the memorable nickname “Savage.” He went on to serve his country with distinction as an electrician in the United States Navy for 20 years, primarily serving on submarines. His dedication and leadership were recognized as he retired with the esteemed rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer E8.
After his military service, Paul continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence as he transitioned to the civilian workforce. He held positions with Kresge/Kmart and TV Guide, where his colleagues knew him as a reliable and skilled professional.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Paul had a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy to his life and to those around him. He had a passion for English Setters, raising and showing these elegant dogs with a level of care and expertise that was admired by many. In the local community, Paul could often be found at Sharon Hill Lanes, where his love for bowling was evident in his powerful throw and friendly competition.
Paul also dedicated time to coaching softball for the Sharon Hill Athletic Association, where his guidance and mentorship left a lasting impact on young athletes. He had a knack for encouraging and motivating players, instilling in them a love for the game and the importance of sportsmanship.
After retiring, Paul and his wife of over 63 years, Carole, embraced the freedom of the open road, traveling across the country in their RV. This time allowed them to explore the natural beauty of the United States and create a treasure trove of memories together. Paul also had a deep appreciation for the delicate beauty of orchids and the classic elegance of roses, cultivating these blooms with a gentle hand and a patient spirit.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Carole (Wiederwax), and his loving children, Paul Jr., Deborah Heitz (William), Robert (Laura), and Pamela Kearney (Michael). He leaves behind fond memories with all of his grandchildren, brother- and sister-in-law, nieces and nephews. Each family member carries a piece of Paul’s legacy within them – his strength, dependability, calm demeanor, compassion, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Agnes, sisters Mary and Helen, and pets too numerous to name.
As we reflect on the life of Paul C. Azarian, Sr., we remember a man who lived with honor, who cherished his family, and who contributed to his country and community with both pride and humility. His story is one of resilience, camaraderie, and love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. He was our calm port, our safe harbor, the anchor we all relied upon.
Today, we bid farewell to Paul, a true embodiment of the American spirit, whose life’s journey has reached its sunset. As we close this chapter, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of service, and the many lives he touched. Paul C.
