Michael Vanderslice
Michael Vanderslice, 62, of Pottstown, PA, formerly of Downingtown, PA, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on February 21, 2022. He was a proud alumnus of the Milton Hershey School and cherished the friendships that he made there. Additionally, he attended West Chester University.
As a young man, Mike was the Grill Master, the court-holder, and had an infectious competitive spirit. As an umpire and coach for youth baseball, he was overjoyed to lead his son’s WBYA team to the championship. He was a brilliant, natural leader and took pride in having been elected Exalted Ruler of his local BPOE.
Mike “Slice” Vanderslice loved Philly sports to his core- he never turned down a chance to talk about the Eagles or Phillies. He idolized Cal Ripken Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles and could recite box scores with the best of them. Mike also loved rock n roll. He saw many of his favorite bands in concert in his adventurous youth- those who loved him will forever remember his fervor for Jim Croce, Bob Seger, and of course, The Boss.
Although Mike faced difficult challenges in his life, he had an indelible spirit and abiding love for his children and grandchildren. He often expressed his deep appreciation for his former wife (Kathleen Vanderslice) and the mother of his children. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond, his mother Dorothy (Mooney), his beloved brothers Joseph and Sam (King), and his grandson Elliott (Vanderslice). He is survived by his son, Sean (Alyssa Vanderslice), his daughter, Monica (Casey Taylor), and his grandchildren Rory, Kellen and Logan (Taylor) and Embry (Vanderslice), as well as his sisters, Eva (Glasco) and Dolores.
