Michael “Mike” T. McCarthy
Michael “Mike” T. McCarthy ’68, 75, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He was the husband of Mona McCarthy.
Michael Timothy McCarthy (aka Mike, Mac, Mr. Mac, Papa Mac), 75, of Longmont, Colorado passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 as a result of complications from the autoimmune disease (EGPA) he had been fighting for 11 years.
Mike was born July 5, 1949 to Thomas J and June Fenton McCarthy in Arlington, Virginia. He graduated from Milton Hershey School in 1968, attended Northern Virginia Community College and served in the US Army from 1970-1972. He married Mona Aiken McCarthy in 1973 and they moved to Annandale, VA where Mike began his career in the moving industry. From 1978-1980 they took a career sabbatical and worked as house parents at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA, one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences in their lives. Mike continued his moving career in 1981 with Golden Van Lines, Atlas Van Lines agent in Longmont, CO, where he spent the next 35 years learning, teaching, leading and sharing his tremendous knowledge and experience in the moving industry.
He loved his family and would always tell you how proud he was of their accomplishments. Mike enjoyed the camaraderie of playing golf and organizing small golf tournaments with his buddies. He loved baseball and faithfully followed the Colorado Rockies with Mona.
Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mona and his daughter, Libby Anderson and her husband, Eric of Denver, CO; three grandsons, Crayton, Malcolm and Quinn of Denver; his best buddy, Mocha; his nieces, Sharon McCarthy Fisher and Kathleen McCarthy Scrivner of Fresno, CA; and his nephews, David McCarthy of Fresno, CA and Tom McCarthy, Jr of Arden, NC.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his daughter, Amanda and his older brothers, Tom and John McCarthy.
