John L. Hess

John (Jack) L. Hess, formerly of Johnstown, PA., passed away at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, S.C. on June 19, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born on November 19, 1927, in Wilmore, PA, son of Stewart E. Hess and Mary Amelia (George) Hess. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers; sisters and a grandchild. Survived by his wife Mary Alice (Kohler) Hess of 72 years and five children: John Hess, Bradenton, FL; Sue Hess-Anderson, Swansea, SC; Joe Hess, Latrobe, PA; Stewart Hess, Owings, MD; Sally Hess-Kroon, Punta Gorda, FL. He also had six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mary Alice is now residing in Bradenton, FL.

Living in Pennsylvania most of his life, Jack attended Milton Hersey School for Boys at a very young age until graduation. He was a member of the of the US Army, stationed in Hawaii. After his service, he worked at Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown until retirement. After retirement, he kept busy doing custodial and lawn maintenance for the local church and especially continued with his extensive vegetable-gardening which he loved and enjoyed. After a private service, John will rest in Swansea, SC.
