John B. Mescan Sr.

John B. Mescan Sr., 89, of Harrisburg passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at his home.

He was born in Swoyersville on December 15, 1931 to the late John and Mary (Mattie) Mescan. John was preceded in death by his wife Ann (Miller) in September 2014 after 57 years of marriage, and his two brothers, Bernard and Robert Mescan.

John graduated from the Milton S. Hershey Industrial School, Class of 1950. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War, a Harrisburg Police Officer for three years then a machinist with Caterpillar Tractor Co. before retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, American Legion Post 1001 and the Knights of Columbus. John was a high school basketball and football coach and was an avid bowler.

Surviving are his two sons, John, Jr. of Maryland, Michael of Enhaut; six daughters, Maryanne of Harrisburg, Joanne Diaz (Ariel) of Harrisburg, Elizabeth Ranker (Robert) of Mechanicsburg, Teresa Csurics (David) of Harrisburg, Cathy Whiteside (Lance) of Harrisburg, Kristen Clancy (Sean) of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Taylor, James, Adam, Alyssa, Nathan, Sarah, Nicholas and Alivia.

The family would especially like to thank those who cared for their father from Homeland Hospice, Kris, Ruthann, Kay, Kate, and Laurie.
