He was predeceased by his parents, Magdalene Ott Knott Boland and Navy; and his brother Charles Richard Knott. He is survived by his wife LouAnn Knott; his children, Michael Knott, David Knott (Jennifer), James Ralph Knott, Jr., Kim Cowart (Jeff) and Wendy Finley (David Williams); and his brother Donald Knott. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
