James F. Peterson

James F. Peterson ’48, 92, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at his home. He was the husband of the late June Peterson.

James F. Peterson, 92, of New Holland, passed away at home on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 3:22 a.m. after a short illness. He was the husband of the late June A. (Graves) Peterson who passed away July 3, 2015. 

Born in Reading, Mr. Peterson was the son of the late Franklin M. and Elizabeth (Kreisher) Peterson.  He was a graduate of Milton Hershey Industrial School where he was trained as a baker. Shortly after graduation Jim entered the Naval Reserves followed by Active Duty in December of 1951. He remained on Active Duty through the end of the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on November 9, 1954. Throughout the remainder of his life, Jim was an ardent supporter of the U.S. military. Following his military service, Jim worked at several Reading area businesses before working for the next 30 plus years as a baker. He finished up his career as an assembler at Graco Children’s Products in Elverson PA. Working hard his entire career, Jim made the most of his retirement. In retirement, Jim continued to enjoy baking and would often make baked goods for friends and family. He and his wife were long time members of High Point Baptist Chapel in Geigertown where Jim served the Lord faithfully in the bus ministry first driving for Sunday School and later for the Academy.  

Jim is survived by his children Judith A. Souden, wife of Charles Souden, Sr. of Morgantown, PA; Jay A. Peterson, husband of the late Cathy Peterson of Clinton, PA; Joy A. Miller, wife of Denis Miller of Ephrata, PA; SSG James A. Peterson, husband of Christina Peterson of Fletcher, OK; Joel A. Peterson, husband of Michele Peterson of Reamstown, PA; Jill A. Peterson with whom he last resided. Jim and his wife June were blessed with 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.    

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Maidencreek Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at High Point Baptist Chapel 200 Chapel Road, Geigertown, PA 19523 Friday, July 15, 2022 at 6:00 pm.  Reverend Paul E. Caughill will officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends at High Point Baptist Chapel Friday from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to High Point Baptist Chapel at the above mentioned address in memory of Mr. James F.
