Irvin “Jim” R. Meyers

Irvin R. Meyers ’62, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. He was the husband of Dorothy Meyers and the father of Jim Meyers.

Irvin R. Meyers “Big Jim,” age 78 of Upper Deerfield Twp., NJ passed away on the morning of March 28, 2023 as a result of failing health over the last 6 months.

Born in Barrellville, MD to Irvin Lloyd and Regina Meyers (Imes). Irvin was married to Dorothy M. Meyers for 57 years.

Irvin, who was known by everyone as “Jim,” had been a resident of southern New Jersey for the last 55 years.

Jim graduated from Milton Hershey School located in Hershey, PA and after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1962 where he was later awarded a National Defense Service Medal.

After military service, Jim served as a Police Officer in Cumberland, MD and later as a Bridgeton City Police Officer after moving to New Jersey in 1968. Later Jim joined the NJ Department of Corrections as a Correction Officer and eventually retired from South Woods State Prison as a Lieutenant.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son Jim and his wife Heather and his grandson, Jimmy and fiancé Samantha. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Meyers of Cumberland, MD and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his grandson, Ryan J. Meyers (Ewings Sarcoma) and sisters, Madeline Miller and Stella Meyers.

Special to Jim were his relatives, Lauren Jeddou, Sharon Hollowell, Becky Washburn, Adam and Heba Jeddou and his cats, Winchester and Rizzo.

Jim was a member of the VFW and the Italian American Civic Club.

He will be interred at a later date at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery during a private family service.
