Ira “Ike” R. Geisinger

Ira “Ike” R. Geisinger ’49, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He was the husband of the late Marianne Geisinger.

Ira “Ike” R. Geisinger, 91, passed away on March 21, 2023.

He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania to Russell and Anna (Rickert) Geisinger.

As a child, Ike attended the Milton Hershey School for Boys. After graduating high school, Ike joined the U.S. Air Force.  While enlisted, he met Marianne Rehm, the love of his life, in Heidelberg, Germany, where they married.  After 20 years he retired from the Air Force and settled in Indianapolis where he began work as a letter carrier at the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired after 20 years of faithful service.  Ike’s work would not define him, as his passion was traveling with his wife back to Germany to visit his second family— the family and friends of his wife Marianne.  There he loved to hike in the Alps and, of course, enjoy some beer!  Later, this second family would gather yearly on Marco Island in Florida.  Ike also loved walking the trails at Ft. Benjamin Harrison State Park with his wife where they often took their children’s dogs for daily walks.  Ike was an avid gardener and had a green thumb.  He could grow beautiful roses despite the challenging Indiana climate.  He loved watching soccer, a passion that began while he was stationed in Germany.

Ike was a humble man and will be truly missed by many.

Ira is survived by his loving children, Virginia Geisinger, Robin Geisinger (Jessica) and Silvia Thompson (Randy); grandchildren Philip Thompson and Henrik Geisinger; sister Iola Geisinger and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marianne Geisinger; parents Anna and Russell, sister Virginia Auchter and brothers Frederick Geisinger and Bruce Geisinger.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street Indianapolis IN. A memorial gathering will take place on Monday, March 27, from 3 to 5pm.
