Harry McCracken

Harry Kenneth McCracken, 86, MHS Class of 1950, passed away September 19, 2018. He was born Jan. 23, 1932 in Clearfield, PA to Harry and Viola McCracken. He graduated from Milton Hershey High School in 1950. He joined the US Army, serving in numerous duty stations including Ethiopia, Germany, Viet Nam and Thailand, retiring from the US ARMY in 1982 after 30 years’ service. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. His love of baseball and coaching his sons was an important part of bringing 2 state championship baseball trophies home to San Angelo. He helped in the restoration of the Fort Concho Chapel with the Goodfellow AFB Army detachment. After retiring, he became an avid gardener and loved his pecan trees and vegetable garden. 

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 62 years, Jo Ann, son Mickey McCracken, and sisters Jean and Louise. Survivors include sons, Larry of Round Rock, Terry “Tiger” (Sandy) of San Angelo, Yale of San Antonio, Kyle (Sherri) of Haslet, brothers Sam of Mansfield, OH and Bill of Waterford, PA, grandchildren Whitney McCracken of San Angelo, Brittany Mackey (Grant) of Irvine, CA, Blake McCracken of Ridgecrest, CA, Austin McCracken (Katelyn) of Ft. Worth and special niece Mary J Watson of Scottsburg, IN. Special thanks to the staff of Lyndale Assisted Living. There will be a family service at a later date.
