Gary Miles

Gary Marshall Miles, 78, of 6528 Blackhawk Drive, Huntingdon, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with cancer.  Born Sept. 9, 1939, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late John Porter and Martha Jane (Ross) Miles. He was united in marriage to the former Diane M. Claar May 25, 1963, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Pine Hall by the Rev. Frank Heamer. Mrs. Miles survives at their home.   Mr. Miles is survived by his children, Michael S. Miles and wife, LuAnn, Michelle Y. Coyne and husband, John, Shane A. Miles and wife, Christal, and Danielle S. Somers, all of Huntingdon; grandchildren, Lacrisha Fisher, Cole Fisher, Mason Somers and Chase Somers; and great-grandchildren, Layla Bennett and Briar Benson.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Bailey; and brothers, Leroy Porter Miles and Thomas Clifford Miles. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Miles enlisted in the United States Army June 16, 1958, serving at the Oakdale Missile Site in Oakdale. He was honorably discharged May 10, 1961.  He was a 1957 graduate of Milton Hershey High School.  Mr. Miles retired from employment in the engineering department of the state Fish and Boat Commission in Pleasant Gap after 35 years of service. He loved to fish and hunt, do leatherworking, watch football and NASCAR and spend time with his family and his dog, Max.
