Dr. Richard “Rick” W. Stamm

Dr. Richard “Rick” W. Stamm ’63, 78, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2022 at his home. He was the husband of Rose Stamm.

Dr. Richard Stamm (78) of Clovis New Mexico passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Friday February 10, 2023, after battling cancer. He was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania on July 9, 1944, to Norma Marie Bertocci and William Henry Stamm Jr. After his father passed away in 1956, he attended Milton Hershey School, where he was the class president. After graduating in 1960 from Milton Hershey, he attended Washington and Jefferson where he received his bachelor’s degree in English. Rick was drafted for the Vietnam war in 1967 and served as a medical corpsman and a clinical specialist CRS. He received the national defense service medal, good conduct medal, sharp- shooter medal, Vietnam service medal, Vietnam campaign medal and an overseas bar. He welcomed his first child, Aileen in 1971 and Billy in 1972. He graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine where he became a Podiatrist in June 1979.

Right after graduation from Podiatry school, he moved his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico in July 1979 to open his first private practice. He chose Albuquerque because he went to Philmont Boys Ranch as a Boy Scout and loved the New Mexico mountains. Rick was an avid hunter and loved to hunt turkey, oryx, caribou, bear, deer, antelope, elk, and others. He looked forward to Spring turkey hunting every year with his lifelong friend Jack Stagner. In 1991, he met his wife Rose and in 1993 they moved from Albuquerque to Clovis, New Mexico where he opened his private practice. Rick then started the Surgery center with other local doctors that eventually Presbyterian Health purchased. Rick then continued to work for Presbyterian. He was a Board-Certified Podiatric Surgeon, Fellow with the American College of Foot Surgeons, Fellow with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and he had many more accolades.

Rick loved music and he had quite the collection of music on the reel to reel, records, and tapes that he played in his treatment rooms for his patients. Rick really enjoyed every minute he was able to spend with his wife, his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren. Dr. Stamm loved being a Podiatrist and serving the Clovis area and other areas across New Mexico for over 30 years. He was well known to his colleagues, nurses, patients as a compassionate, caring physician. He practiced medicine for 50 years and he put his heart and soul into everything he did for his family, friends, coworkers, and patients.

Rosary will be held on Friday February 17, 2023, at 10:00 am and Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 10:30 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 108 Davis St. Mass at the Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM, and Burial at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his life-long friends; Jack Stagner, Dr. Jacob George, Jim Gould, Dan Fox, Dr. Kent Zieser.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Stamm; two children, Aileen Lacy (Russell) of Albuquerque, NM, Bill Stamm of Aliquippa, PA; stepchildren, Lori Griego, Erica Valdez (Moises), and John Griego all of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Robert Stamm (Carol) of Olive Branch, MS, Norman Stamm (Kate) of Maumee, OH; eight grandchildren, Jordyn Lacy, Madison Lacy, Nina Stamm, Emma Valdez, Moises Valdez, Candace Griego, Janessa Griego, Michael Delgadillo. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Stamm and Norma Bertocci; stepsons, Gary Griego and Michael Griego.
