Dr. Richard P. Shepherd

Dr. Richard P. Shepherd ’68, 71, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. He was the husband of Mary Shepherd.

Richard Paul Shepherd Sr. went to be with the Lord after a lengthy battle with cancer this Wednesday November 10, 2021, at the age of 71. He was born on March 11, 1950, to the late Clement and Marian Shepherd in Harrisburg, PA where he grew up. He graduated high school from Milton Hershey School with the class of 1968. He then attended Bob Jones University in South Carolina from 1968-1969 where he met his wife, Mary. He then went on to Maranatha Bible Institute in Elkton MD, graduating in 1979.He continued with his education from there, gaining his bachelors, masters and PhD from the Christian Bible College and Seminary.

Richard worked at Dixon Valve as a machinist from 1977-2019. He became the Pastor at Calvary Bible Baptist Church in 1983, serving the church for 36 years until his retirement in 2019. He loved his family, his Notre Dame football, Duke basketball and the New York Yankees. During most games, he could be found giving the coaches advice from the couch.

Richard was preceded in death by a son, Richard Paul Shepherd, Jr. as well as a sister, Carol Hallman. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Bryden Reynolds Shepherd of Rock Hall; son, Robert Shepherd of Rock Hall; daughter, Angela Collison (Michael) of Chestertown; brother, Joseph Shepherd (Mildred) of Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren Aden Shepherd of Winchester, VA and Chase Collison of Chestertown; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 18, at 11:00 am at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation for family and friends will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
