Dale Lewis Nolen

Dale Lewis Nolen, 93, of Johnstown, OH passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, January 28, 2019. He is now and forever with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because he rested his faith on His glorious person and His perfect work. Dale blessed this earth on Easter Sunday April 12, 1925 in Northumberland, PA to the late James and Eliza Mae (Kresge) Nolen.

Dale, at the age of 3 years 4 months, was the youngest boy enrolled in the Milton Hershey Boys School orphanage. He graduated from Milton Hershey School in 1943. Immediately after high school Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the Seabees in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

While attending Hershey Junior College Dale met Kathryn (Kitty) Heide; thus starting their 64-year love affair. They were an amazing team and supported each other in faith, family, and careers as well as enjoying travel, especially to Ireland and Germany.

Dale worked for the Boy Scouts of America from 1952-1983 serving in Delaware, Ohio, New Jersey, Illinois and Pennsylvania. Among his many accomplishments Dale was the first director of the Tinnermann Canoe Base on the French River in Ontario, Canada and helped in the creation of Camp Turrell used today by the Northern NJ Council. After taking early retirement from the BSA Dale began another career in health services. He and Kitty created Home, Health, Help, Inc. He was an award winning Nursing Home Administrator in central Pennsylvania.

Dale is survived by his children Kathleen Louise (Bruce) Hannah of Wilmington, NC, Patricia Lee (Andy) Nolen-Parkhouse of Monson, MA, James Michael (Sandy) Nolen of Johnstown, OH; grandchildren Matthew Jared (Erika) Nolen-Parkhouse, John Christopher (Jess) Hannah, David James Hannah, , Landon Boggs Nolen, Hannah Elizabeth Nolen, and Emily Kathryn Nolen; great-grandchildren Kaileena, Maxine, Brea, Luke, and Andrew; along with numerous friends who loved him dearly. Dale, the youngest of his siblings, was preceded in death by his brothers James, Ray, Floyd and his sisters Lucille (Snyder) and Selena.

A Memorial Service will be held on February 16, 2019 at Vineyard Community Church, 10444 Crouse-Willison Road, Johnstown, OH. Please join us that day for fellowship with family and friends starting at 11:30 a.m., service begins at 12:30 p.m.
