Andrew Litavec
Andrew Joseph Litavec, 84, of Lansdale, PA, Professor Emeritus of Cabrini University, Radnor, PA went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2021 surrounded by his family. Professor Litavec passed away peacefully at Abington-Jefferson Hospital of Lansdale. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Brennan) Litavec. They were married for 59 years.
Born February 9, 1937 in Hazelton, PA, he resided in Lansdale, PA for 44 years. The son of the late Andrew Charles and Margaret Mary (Malosky) Litavec.
Professor Litavec graduated from the Milton Hershey School, Hershey, PA. He then went on to earn his bachelor degree in education from Bloomsburg State (University) and a master of education from Temple University. He served with the 3rd Marines as a Corpsman, serving in the Far East from 1954 to 1958.
He began his teaching career in the Centennial School District, Warminster, PA before joining the faculty in the Education Dept. at Cabrini University in 1966 where he taught both undergraduate and graduate students. During his tenure at Cabrini he served in many capacities including Chairman of the Education Dept., Coordinator of Elementary Education and Consultant for the Montgomery County I.U., and a judge at the Chester and Montgomery County Science fairs from 1995 until his retirement from Cabrini in 2003 after 37 years.
He was a member of the Montgomery County Science Teachers Association, Science & Technology Partnership, National Education Association, American Association of University Professors, Pennsylvania State Education Association and the American Legion. He was co-advisor for the Student PSEA organization on the Cabrini campus. Throughout the years he enjoyed taking his students to the many conferences sponsored by the PSEA organization and field trips. To the hosts of students who took his classes he was teacher, friend and mentor.
While on the faculty at Cabrini University he received the Christian R. & Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, Honorary Alumni Award and the Legion of Honor Award from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains. Each year the Cabrini Education Dept. awards the Andrew Litavec Distinguished Science Pedagogy Award to a graduating senior education major who has shown excellence in science at graduation.
After retirement he volunteered with his wife with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed traveling abroad and thru the U.S. Andy was also a huge Flyers and Sinatra fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother Frank & wife Joan of Stephens City, VA, also in-laws Jack & Jane Brennan, Lansdale, PA, Dave & Sally (Brennan) Schlieder, Selinsgrove, PA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in addition to many friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Edward.
