Staff & Retiree Obituaries 2020

Charles A. Astfalk died on Nov. 22, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 22, 1963 and retired July 1, 1997. He worked as teacher of Drafting and Graphic Arts. He was an Honorary Member of the MHS Alumni Association.

Joanne Bolyard died on Sept. 29, 2020. She began employment with MHS on Oct. 7, 1987 and retired Aug. 1, 2007. She was a houseparent.

Erwin Chandler, MHS chapel organist, died on Jan. 2, 2020. He was part of the MHS family for 29 years.

Kenneth M. Cook, inventory attendant/receiver at the Hartman Supply Center, died on Dec. 7, 2020. He was part of the MHS family for 21 years, hired in 1999 as a part-time driver and recreation leader.

Helen (Hull) Delbridge died on March 12, 2020. She was a dedicated employee of MHS for 40 years, serving with late husband Richard as a houseparent for more than two decades, as well as a home coordinator after his death.

M. Nelson Durand died on Oct. 3, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 28, 1959 and retired Sept. 1, 1992. He worked as a middle school principal and director of the intermediate division. He was an Honorary Member of the MHS Alumni Association.

Roy Dice died on May 19, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 23, 1967 and retired Sept. 1, 1991. He was rehired part time Sept. 1, 1991 and worked until Nov. 15, 2001. He was an Honorary Member of the MHS Alumni Association.

Betty Eberly died on July 16, 2020. She began employment with MHS on July 19, 1971 and retired Dec. 1, 1998. She was a relief houseparent and dental assistant.        

Dale Ebling died on July 24, 2020. He began employment with MHS on April 1, 1985 and retired Aug. 1, 1994. Dale worked in Finance.      

Pauline Espenshade died on Dec. 15, 2020. She began employment with MHS on Aug. 2, 1972 and retired June 1, 1990. She worked in the central kitchen.

Doris Gingrich died on Aug. 8, 2020. She began employment with MHS on April 1, 1968 and retired June 1, 1995. She was a nurse.

Marjorie Kozlowski died Sept. 22, 2020. She began employment with MHS on April 16, 1963 and retired April 1, 1994. She worked as a houseparent and in the drape shop.          

Rodney McLaughlin died on Nov. 7, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 25, 1961 and retired Nov. 1, 1992. He worked as a psychologist. He was an Honorary Member of the MHS Alumni Association.

Nancy Showman died on March 26, 2020. She began employment with MHS on Aug. 23, 1976 and retired March 1, 1993.

Winford Smith died on Feb. 1, 2020. He was a houseparent from 2004 to 2012.

Carl Stump died on April 20, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 27, 1956 and retired Jan. 1, 1989.

Lewis Webster died on Jan. 15, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 24, 1977, and was senior director of Student Character and Leadership when he retired on Jan. 1, 2014. He was inducted as an Honorary Member of the MHS Alumni Association in 2015.

Thomas Welsh died on Nov. 12, 2020. He began employment with MHS on Aug. 24, 1966 and retired Sept. 1, 1997. He worked as a teacher.

Barbara Yeomans died on April 1, 2020. She began employment with MHS on Aug. 1, 1994 and retired Aug. 1, 2001. She and her husband, Bethel, were houseparents. They were rehired relief houseparents until March 13, 2007.

Mary Yetter died on Nov. 23, 2020. She began employment with MHS on April 6, 1956 as a seasonal worker in the orchard and transferred to full-time houseparent in July 1968. She retired July 1, 1992.
