Suffolk, VA – Paul M. Mitchell, 71, passed away at his home on August 25, 2013 surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Born in Harrisburg, Pa. on March 20, 1942, he was predeceased by his parents, Leola and Clell Sr.; step-mother Audrey; brothers, Clell Jr., Raymond and Larry; and sisters, Judy and Tina.

He attended Milton Hershey School until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1960. A Vietnam veteran, Paul honorably served his country for 12 years. He then worked for 22 years in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring from Shop 38. Paul was a member of First Baptist Church of Suffolk.

Paul married Nancy on August 17, 1963 in Camden County, N.C, and 12 years later were blessed with their only child Kristie. He was a devoted husband to Nancy, loving Daddy to Kristie, and dedicated “Dada” to his only grandchild Marissa.

He is also survived by five siblings, Margaret, Rose Lee, Gary, Stanley and John and their families, all originating from Pennsylvania; and numerous extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, 2690 Bridge Road, Suffolk, Va. 23435, by Pastor Ted Woosley. Burial with military honors will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m..

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association .
