Frank Allen
Frank Allen Jr., 86, of Chambersburg died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in Chambersburg Hospital. Born Nov. 4, 1921, in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Gertrude (Mills) Allen.
He and his wife of more than 64 years, Isabelle (Hicks) Allen, were married on New Year’s Day 1943. Mr. Allen was a 1940 graduate of the former Hershey Industrial School.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asian and Pacific theaters and received the Bronze Star and three battle stars. Prior to retiring in 1984, he worked in the parts department at Forrester Lincoln Mercury, Chambersburg, where he was known as the “walking computer.”
Mr. Allen was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg. He also was a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Chambersburg, and Franklin County AARP Chapter 2287.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, P. Edward Allen of Chambersburg; three grandsons; one sister, Josephine Lytle of Shippensburg; and one brother, Leon Allen of Zullinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Florence, and two brothers, William and Tom.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, where members of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday in the funeral home.
