John H. Eicherly
Top of Form John Hiram Eicherly, 89, became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Rest Haven – York. He was the husband of Sarah B. (Laughman) Eicherly of York. Together they celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Born in York on March 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Hiram B. and Carolyn (Herst) Eicherly.
John was a 1944 graduate of the Milton S. Hershey School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre earning the Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and the American Theatre Medal.
He was a milkman for Rutter Bros. Dairy, retiring in 1996, and then delivered airline tickets to businesses for Bailey Travel, Inc. John was a member of Red Lion Bible Church, where he was an usher, worked in the office and drove the church bus. He enjoyed old vinyl records and sharing God’s word.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Eicherly of York and Darrell Rohrbaugh of Dover; a daughter, Carmen Billett of York; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Steven A. Schmuck officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with military rites conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. .
